This month's Business+ Forum discussed the growing influence of the Korean entertainment industry globally.
Co-hosted by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the British Chamber of Commerce in Korea (BCCK), the session included a panel discussion with Lee Yong-min and Son Jin from Yulchon Law Firm, and adventurer and TV presenter James Hooper. Moderated by Lucinda Walker, executive director of the BCCK, the panel discussed both the successes of the Korean entertainment industry as well as its challenges.
It was particularly interesting to hear Hooper’s personal experiences having appeared on a few Korean broadcast programmes. Hooper shared how he found it interesting that after appearing on Korean television, he has had strangers come up to him asking for photos together, something he would not have experienced if it was in a UK context.
However, he also shared the negative side of fame in Korea where online criticism can be quite brutal, and how even when untruths and misrepresentations get published, there’s almost nothing that can be done to rectify the issue.
The session was attended by people from both the private and public sector, including members of the British Parliament who were in town.
